Mooring System Design Assistance & Review

We can assist you and your engineering group with mooring system designs tailored to maximize the operational performance of your floating structure under normal operating conditions; and to survive the ever-increasing incidence of “survival” conditions during storm events.

We use and are continuing in a partnership under Canada’s Ocean Super Cluster program to develop world-leading dynamic analysis software used to design and evaluate mooring systems while simultaneously analyzing the performance of the floating structure in a dynamic three-dimensional modelling environment.

The days of multiple hydro-static calculations of stress and strain scenarios to determine the size of anchors and mooring chains required to moor navigation buoys are coming to an end.

A library of mooring components is available to design the mooring line and anchoring for use with 3D models of the navigation buoy or other floating structure.  Operational parameters such as water depth; wave heights and wave periods; current and wind speeds are entered for evaluation of the design.  The software simultaneously analyzes the performance of the mooring line and the resulting impact on the operational performance of the navigation buoy as a visual aid to navigation.  This analysis is performed in a dynamic three-dimensional modelling environment with visual and numerical performance outputs.

Our years of technical experience are greatly enhanced with this new technology, truly customized moorings that consider and optimize the performance of a floating structure can now be developed in a fraction of the time.  The ability to simultaneously analyze the resulting change in performance of the navigation buoy when making changes to the mooring design is fostering innovation in buoy designs and mooring lines.

fixed aid support marine structure design. We have a portfolio of standard designs by engineers for smaller beacons as well as experience working with engineers to design custom structures for large commercial projects. We know that the most important function of any support structure is to put the visual aids to navigation in the proper position to work as the mariner expects.

Shore-based “fixed” aids to navigation require a platform on which to be mounted. The level of detail associated with this platform is a function of the requirements

Tidal Marine services a wide variety of clients, ranging from private companies and public organizations to individual customers.
